Indonesia will make  sex outside marriage illegal with penalties of up to one year of jail.

It will also ban couples from living together before they get married.

The bans, which will affect more than 276 million people, are part of a wider network of laws including insulting the president or vice president, expressing dissenting views to the country’s national ideology, black magic, and promoting contraception.

Abortion also continues to be a crime in Indonesia, except under certain circumstances and conditions such as a woman having a life-threatening medical condition, or if she is a rape survivor.
