Since their takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, the Taliban have barred girls from middle and high school and ordered that they be thrown out of universities.

The group argues its rules are in keeping with their interpretation of Islam, although Afghanistan is the only Muslim country that prohibits girls from being educated.

Women have also been told they cannot return to work or travel in public without being accompanied by a Mahram (male guardian).

Several members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have  urged the Taliban to end its repressive treatment of women in Afghanistan.

As part of a worldwide community, it is extremely distressing to see the continuation of female persecution and a stripping of basic human rights.

Meanwhile young, former female Afghan lawmaker has been shot dead in her home in Kabul.

Mursal Nabizada, a former member of Afghanistan’s parliament was a lawmaker in the Afghan parliament before the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021, was killed by unknown gunmen.
