Founders Weekly: Abuse stops here. Mandatory training for NSW MPs and staff recommended

Let's unpack the latest report into behaviour at NSW Parliament

They’re supposed to be the leaders of the NSW State, but  a report into behaviour at NSW Parliament finally confirms that bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct is rife.

The good news: recommended mandatory training for MPs and staff so, hopefully, the abuse stops here once and for all.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and the opposition leader, Chris Minns, are expected to respond to the independent report on parliament’s workplace culture, by former sex discrimination commissioner Elizabeth Broderick, today (Friday).

It is understood that moves are afoot to encourage the parliamentary community to improve workplace culture and address bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct issues, as well as the way they are reported.

The people who represent us in Parliament need to adhere to a code of behaviour that sets an example for all employers and employees, and let’s be honest, the nation at large.

The level of misconduct in this ‘elite’ community is not acceptable and we look forward to details of mandatory training and the improvements that will be made.
