How to get a new job using social media

new study in Science journal has shown that acquaintances, rather than close friends, may be your best bet for getting a new job.

The study found job transmission is most likely from acquaintances with whom you share about 10 mutual friends and rarely interact.

This may be because, if you are looking for a new position, you already know what your close friends have to offer.

But it certainly shows the importance of using a social media site like LinkedIn to make your job search more effective.

So how can you leverage this research?

  1. Make regular connection requests with those in your field. Sending a short note with the request can be most effective.

  2. Post news of interest to your network on site to both increase your profile and to add value.

  3. Comment on others’ posts and engage with your peer group.
