Let’s hope the Climate Change Authority is really going to start kicking some meaningful goals with the addition of three, powerful women.
Until now, critics say the authority has been too business weighted and that may not have been in the best interests of green action.
Now the Albanese government has appointed three women with environmental backgrounds to the board.
The new members are biologist Prof Lesley Hughes, a distinguished academic, Dr Virginia Marshall, a legal researcher who has worked on Indigenous water rights, and Sam Mostyn, who was chair of the climate advocacy group 1 Million Women.
We’ll see how these women make their voices heard under the chair, Grant King, a former head of Original Energy and president of the Business Council of Australia.
According to Greens leader, Adam Bandt, the appointments are “a welcome change from the coal and gas advocates appointed in the past”.
Stand by, we hope, for some fireworks – eco-friendly of course.
